Frequently Asked Questions

Must I have my Volvo serviced at the dealership in order to keep my warranty valid? Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act

No. You must maintain your Volvo according to the instructions in your maintenance book. You never have to go back to the Dealership again!

Except for warranty repairs and recalls, we can do it all for you right here. All aspects of your new car warranty will remain in effect when we service your car.

Popular Mechanix is a full service independent Volvo repair shop.

You may have scheduled maintenance performed at Popular Mechanix and your new car warranty will remain fully in effect.

We will stamp your service book, provide a receipt, and a computer generated repair order just like the dealer.

And of course, all our repairs come with a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty.

I brought my car into your shop for recommended maintenance and one day it still broke down. What happened?

We repaired your car according to a scheduled maintenance, which is recommended by Volvo. This includes replacing parts that have a finite useful life such as oil filters, fuel filters and rubber belts, for example. There are other parts that also wear out that are not listed as necessary to replace under Scheduled Maintenance. The manufacturer lists no mileage or time at which this part must be changed. Certain electrical parts including, for example, fuel pumps are subject to failures that could happen even if your car has just been serviced. Please see our Did You Know section for information on different kinds of maintenance that can help to prevent these kinds of situations from happening.

Repairs [Maintenance] on my Volvo often turn out to be more expensive than I thought they would be. I'm on a limited budget. Is there any way to bring the cost down?

Popular Mechanix has an inventory of carefully selected and screened used parts that are more affordable for certain repairs than new parts. Often these parts are almost new, having been salvaged from low mileage cars. Generally, we don't advise buying used parts for regular maintenance. We are more likely to recommend them for repairs. We also have a large inventory of hard-to-find used and antique parts for old Volvos. When you choose to buy used, rather than brand new parts, you are not only saving money, but helping the environment by recycling still useful parts that might otherwise be thrown away. All our used parts come with a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
